Chelsea loanee Wallace arrested

youngster Wallace has been arrested in Arnhem on suspicion of a "sexual offence".

The right-back, on loan at Vitesse, was reportedly arrested at 4am local time in the city centre and has immediately been handed the maximum fine by the Eredivisie outfit and dropped from the weekend league trip to Excelsior.

Wallace, who was signed by Chelsea from Fluminense in 2013, broke Vitesse rules by visiting bars within 48 hours of a league game.

"We still don't know what exactly happened," Police spokesman Paul Koetsier is quoted by NTL as saying. "That must be found out during the investigation.

"We can't make it more concrete than a suspicion of a sexual offence. Maybe there will me more information later today."

Vitesse spokesperson Wiebe Nelissen added: "We also understand that Wallace was arrested on suspicion of an offense.

"We will not speculate on the nature of the suspicion. First the facts need to be clear and we want to hear his side of the story. Then we can judge."

An official Vitesse statement added: "Wallace won't be in the selection for the match against Excelsior. The Brazilian defender was arrested last night in the centre of Arnhem on suspicion of an offence.

"Based on the fact that he is to refrain from going out in the 48 hours before a match, Vitesse immediately decided Wallace will be out of the team and will receive a maximum fine.

"Vitesse has no further announcements."
